A Major Win
June was a big month for sunscreen formulators since Bemotrizinol was approved. This sunscreen active ingredient is not new to the personal care industry as Europe, South Korea and Australia already had it approved. It does come as a big achievement to get it approved in the US as it has been more than 25 years since any UV filter had been approved in the US. With this approval comes more innovations and possibilities for formulators as well as consumers.
Greater Possibilities
With this new addition, come even greater possibilities and it will be interesting to see how they are incorporated into the grand scheme of things more precisely into the sunscreen you and I use on a daily.
Intelligent Protection
Sun care in 2026 is defined by “intelligent protection” meaning that rather than it being a seasonal product, it has become a daily, multifunctional skincare product that integrates seamlessly into the consumers’ routines with lightweight, invisible textures. Norman Fox understands that there is a strong emphasis on eco-friendly, reef-safe and inclusive, non-greasy formulations. It has become a vital part of daily anti-aging, hydration and skin barrier repair routines.
This shift towards “skinimalism” and an increase toward multi-functional solutions that combine a sensorial appeal with proven efficacy have led to formulas like SNF’s Sunscreen SPF 30 with Natursol EMI 132 to be created. This formula combines minimal products with multifunctional solutions such as light texture, fresh touch, and soft after-feel. With 67% Natural Index, this multifunctional polymer allows for easy formulation.
Invisible textures
Consumers are also favoring invisible and lightweight textures. Fumei’s Unseen Sunscreen SPF 30+ PA+++ formula is perfect for dry skin as it provides hydration and invisible, lightweight sunscreen protection using Cerafumei White Beeswax not only as a sunscreen booster but also as an emulsion stabilizer that moisturizes and protects the skin.
Skinification
But our skin isn’t the only one needing sun care. As mentioned before, increase in the concept of skinification has allowed for suppliers like Kao to provide sun care for the hair and scalp. Its Shampoo After Sun Formula is a mild and gentle formula for after sun cleansing and hair repair with NOC of 89%.
A Hub of Innovations
At Norman Fox, we were excited to hear that a new UV filter, Bemotrizinol, has been approved in the US and are curious to see how our suppliers will reimagine new innovations with the new UV filter in mind.
