Norman Fox: Removing Barriers and Creating Opportunities for Student Access

Throughout the years, Norman Fox has been a big supporter of the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District, Equity and Access Department – McKinney Vento Program through our Thanksgiving food baskets, school supplies and food gift cards. This year, we will continue to support them with our 5th annual food drive in November.

The Norman Fox Team also wanted to get more involved and participated in the program’s first meet and greet. The meet and greet brought together different partners and provided the opportunity to discuss ways to enrich the program.

One of the activities that was very meaningful was the breaking barriers one. A board full of barriers that students in the program are facing at the moment was displayed and each partner removed a barrier they would be able to help with. This would allow students to focus on their academics instead. Some of the barriers were food insecurity, unemployment, no access to a backpack & school supply, housing insecurity, lack of college & career support amongst others.

There is great need in the district and we are thankful to be given the opportunity to help contribute in removing these barriers and creating opportunities for student success.
